BIG DATA IS EVERWHERE
It is no surprise that the amount of data being stored is increasing. Enterprises are collecting more and more information as well as storing the collected data for longer periods of time. In large Enterprises, the IBM Mainframe running z/OS is often used as the data server. Having the master copy of the data on the Z/OS system creates the need for moving large amounts of data between Z/OS and Linux/UNIX/Windows (LUW) systems that require this data. As a result, selecting a data mover has become an important part of making essential data center infrastructure decisions.

TODAY’S’ CHALLENGES
1. Higher Transfer Rates: Any data mover based on TCP/IP cannot transfer data fast enough to meet the demands of today’s applications. The volume of corporate data is increasing, yet the transfer windows are staying the same or worse, often shrinking. Your data mover must be able to keep up with this growing demand. Data movers need to move terabytes within transfer windows measured in hours.
2. Features: Moving data between disparate platforms is challenging enough but as issues occur during transmission, you require a fully managed file transfer utility so recovery is not only possible but is accomplished quickly. Basic FTP no longer does the job.
3. Security: The number one concern for many when moving data between platforms is how to secure the data. Transferring data across a traditional TCP/IP backbone makes data vulnerable. Data movement over a dedicated closed channel transport ensures data integrity.
4. Overhead: There is a hidden cost to moving data over TCP/IP. Independent testing has shown at a sustained transfer rate of 100 MB per second, the enterprise consumes 120 Z/OS processing MIPS. Moving transfers off TCP/IP will save 90% of these costs.

ALEBRA’S’ SOLUTION:
Alebra provides an answer to these challenges with its unique PDM software and z/OpenGate Hardware solution, shown below. PDM provides a robust set of features to manage the movement, monitoring and security of your data while z/OpenGate provides a dedicated off network transport between the two servers involved in the transfer. The end result is unparalled performance, speed and cost for the movement of your enterprise data. This solution can move data from Z/OS to any LUW server, from any LUW server back to Z/OS, between two Z/OS’s and from one LUW server to a second LUW server. It can also move data from Z/OS or LUW platform to Hadoop. Movement of data can be done with complete files or with individual records.
Given the speed Alebra provides, you no longer need to move the data off the Z/OS system at all, but to simply install a bridge to access the data when needed from throughout the enterprise. This can result in fewer copies of data being maintained, lower overall storage costs and reduced MIPS as activity can be optimized on the platform of choice. The most secure and inexpensive copy of data is the copy you never make.

Key Functionality of PDM:

Ultra Throughput
• 650 mb per second per channel.
• Scalability to multiple Channels.
• Off-network transfer not limited to Ethernet TCP/IP.
• 350 Concurrent file transfers per z/OS image.

Security
• Encryption
• Auditing

Compliance Ready File Movement
• Comprehensive error detection, reporting and resolution.
• Checkpoint/Restart keeps you from starting over when an error occurs.
• Complete file logs of every file movement

Automation and Efficient Process Management
• Automate scheduled file transfers.
• Journaling.
• Archiving.
• Performance monitoring from any node on network.
• Capacity planning.
