IBM Z delivers greater AI accuracy, productivity, and agility. A large insurance processor came to Alebra because they needed to move large DB2 tables to Hadoop where they maintained a parallel data base along with data from other sources for analysis and access by agents. DB2 on z/OS was their database of choice for handling the large daily volume of transactions. The size of the database increased to a point where they could no longer move the quantity of data within the allotted batch window. We installed a solution that afforded them more than enough time to move their data. In addition, we showed them how to unload the DB2 database and load it into Hadoop at the same time with no interim stops on disk and with no delay.

IBM Z provides a significant total cost of ownership advantage, and when combined with complementary tooling, it further increases efficiency and simplifies system management. The solution involved the use of PDM’s Subsystem Interface (SSI). They used the IBM High Performance Unload utility and PDM’s SSI to directly unload tables to the Hadoop system with no interim stops on disk. Also, PDM delivered the data directly into the Hadoop file system so that the instant the unload job finished, the data was accessible to Hadoop applications.
