Industry terms such as Business Intelligence (BI), Data Analytics, Data Cleansing, Data Mining and Data Warehousing have different meanings to different users. Often these terms have overlapping definitions. Alebra’s uses the term Data Warehousing to mean the movement of data between an Operational Data Store (ODS) and a separate data store used for other processing. Most often, this Data Warehouse is on a different physical system likely running a different operating environment.

Over the years, several trends have emerged:

Data stores have grown exponentially is size. Databases of hundreds of gigabytes are common. Many data stores are terabytes in size (i.e. Big Data)

  1. The requirements for data currency have increased. What was once acceptable to refresh data once per month has evolved to weekly, if not daily, data refresh requirements.
  2. The windows of time available for data synchronization have dramatically decreased.
  3. To meet these challenges, PDM with z/OpenGate transport technology provides customers with the following benefits:
  • Fastest transfer speeds in the industry – Alebra provides configuration options that allow many concurrent data movements operations all running at the maximum speed of the sending or receiving disk. This massive bandwidth potential allows movement of terabytes of data in minutes.
  • High efficiency data movement – PDM with z/OpenGate uses far less processor (CPU) resources than other techniques. The data movement takes place off-network. This combination allows movement of large data stores during peak processing times without impacting other critical workloads.
  • PDM adheres to the data integrity and data sharing facilities as implemented by the respective operating systems.  The customers current best practices used to protect data integrity for other workloads equally apply to file transfer operations.
